Having grown up in a Nintendo-centric household, Sega’s beloved and maligned mascot Sonic The Hedgehog never quite got the same amount of attention from me. That’s not to say that I didn’t play the games, but everyone’s favorite little blue amphetamine junkie often took a backseat to the adventures of a certain Italian plumber with a predilection for stepping on turtles. Regardless of my gaming allegiances there’s no denying that the Sonic The Hedgehog games had some great theme music.
The Michigan-based Super Guitar Bros. aren’t brothers in the familial sense of the word. The duo consists of friends Steven Poissant (steel string guitar) and Sam Griffin (nylon string guitar) who met in a coffee shop in Michigan through a mutual friend. Their musical chemistry is something to behold as they turn some of gaming’s most beloved themes into acoustic masterpieces. Not only do they perform the music of each and every stage, there’s also nods to the lesser known bits like the classic “SEGAAA!” sound byte. Without further ado here’s the video for their Sonic The Hedgehog Medley plus a nifty breakdown of each track. You can also find more of their great covers on their Youtube channel.
