The phrase gets bandied about quite often, but I can honestly say there have only been a few times where I’ve witnessed something and been genuinely rendered speechless (watching The Human Centipede for the first time at 2:00 in the morning comes to mind, but the less said about that the better). I’m now recalling a less mentally scarring instance where I was at a loss for words. Last year Brooklyn’s Cinema Cinema played a blistering set at Clash Bar in Clifton, NJ. It was my first seeing them and for the duration of their set I struggled with a way to express what I was experiencing only to have those thoughts culminate into two very succinct words:
“Holy crap.”
Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Ev Gold and drummer Paul Claro, the avant-garde band have adopted elements of Punk, Hardcore and Progressive Rock and raised them as their own, dare I say, “Manic Children.” 2013 is shaping up to be a big year: this Summer they’re sharing the stage with the recently reformed Black Flag and this November they’ll be taking their brand of chaos overseas on a European tour. The listing below is for the confirmed dates with more to be announced in the near future. I’ll leave you with a track off their 2012 album Manic Children And The Slow Aggression.
Europe had best come prepared.
