In the age where a label as prestigious as Roadrunner Records is finding itself shuttering many of its doors one would assume that the hard rock/metal scene is dead. That’s hardly the case. If anything, it’s merely calling out for something new; something different.
In the case of Newark/Hillside, NJ metal act Killed The Fixtion, the band has reminded us that metal doesn’t always have to be a bludgeoning force of “chugga-chugga” riffing and tough guy posturing.
On April 30th, Killed The Fixtion released their latest single “Moonlite Blue” for both streaming and a free download at midnight. You’re probably saying to yourself, “Moonlite Blue” doesn’t exactly sound like a song title you’d hear from a metal band. That’s precisely why I’m loving this song with each listen. Vocalist Nelson Ceron has remarkable range. He can pull off screams and growls with little to no effort, but I’m really impressed with the clean vocals, especially in the track’s bluesy interlude.
I was a bit puzzled at first, wondering if I were listening to the same track. It’s almost as if Pantera found themselves jamming with blues legend B.B. King. Once it gets going I found it to be my favorite part of the song. Guitarist Kevin Izquierdo absolutely kills on the solo.
