New Music: Killed The Fixtion – “Roots Of The Mountain”

It’s been over a year since Newark, NJ’s Killed The Fixtion released their original blues/metal monster “Moonlite Blue.” Don’t take that as though they’ve been slacking off. 2012 saw the band tackle an impressive array of covers from Alice In Chains, White Zombie and Queen (with a vocal assist from NJ-based singer/songwriter Sofia Nicole).

“Roots of the Mountain” finds KTF at their most experimental stage yet. As with “Moonlite Blue,” the band takes a far more progressive approach to their songwriting, not content to just play by the conventions of Metal. Vocalist Nelson Ceron blasts out the gate with a combo of metal growls and gruff, soulful crooning. His singing voice has become more textured, mirroring that of Lajon Witherspoon, frontman of Sevendust. KTF’S “Family First, Band Second” dynamic is once again the cornerstone of what makes them so unique. Kevin Izquierdo’s guitars mesh seamlessly with Robert Asencio’s smooth, jazz-like bass lines. Abbad Ibn Townsend’s drums and percussion act as the glue which holds it all together. Speaking of percussion, the song has its “Roots” planted firmly in “tribal metal,” a style made famous by Max Cavalera of Sepultura and Soulfly.

“Roots of the Mountain” was produced at Mercury Recording Studios by Jerry Ramos (Apostrophes) and mixed by Alan Douches (Grimus). Check out the track below plus more pics from the photoshoot.
