On first listen Young Rival may not sound like anything you haven’t heard before. Their brand of 1960’s surf rock-meets-indie pop can be heard from a plethora of recent bands like Jaill and Best Coast. Still, there’s a lot to be said about any band that can put a refreshing spin on a familiar formula, making it all their own.
The band has embodied this sentiment to the fullest on their latest single “Black Is Good” off their upcoming album Stay Young. While the above statements might sound like a series of backhand compliments this is a real fun track. With the Summer nearing its end this is a perfect song for one last trip to the beach before the cool winds of Fall and Winter kick you off the shores.
Stay Young will be released October 23 via Sonic Unyon Records.
