Okay, bear with me, I’m going somewhere with this. There’s many a topic I wish to discuss but they don’t always fall under a particular category like the other music I cover. That is why I’m introducing a new column I’ve dubbed “Diary of a Snob,” which will be my platform for random music-related topics and rants. Now that I’ve got that ball rolling, let’s do something crazy and announce two columns! That’s right: two new columns for the price of one and I think you guys will especially dig this next one.

I feel as though I’m forever at a crossroads, torn between my love of writing and my videogame addiction. I mean, who has time for writing when you’re pulling all-nighters raiding dungeons in Skyrim or scouring the wastelands of Pandora for Class Mods in Borderlands 2? I couldn’t let that continue much longer. In a moment of weakness I cried out to the heavens, “If only there were some way I could combine my love of gaming and music blogging!”
The answer hit me like a blast from Mega Man’s buster cannon:

Video game music (or “VGM” as it’s often referred to) has been a big part of my life as a music fan lover junkie. It’s part of the reason I still find myself whistling the Super Mario Bros. 2 theme at work (much to my coworkers’ chagrin). Even when the games themselves are absolutely terrible (I’m looking in your direction, Kung-Fu Heroes) there’s bound to be a memorable piece of music behind it. I truly believe that we’re living in something of a golden age right now where the VGM and Chiptune scenes are growing at a rapid pace. What was once viewed as a passing trend is now becoming accepted by people the world over and I’d love to shine the spotlight on some of my favorite acts.

There you have it, folks! “Diary of a Snob” and “Player 1 Press Start”: two great tastes that taste great together! Keep an eye peeled for these two new features in the future. Now if you excuse me, I think I hear my Super NES calling me…
