To be a fan of DRMCTHR and to have followed them since 2012 is to witness a band truly coming into their own. Every release since then seemingly pulls away another layer, leaving us with a further glimpse of what this band was born to be. Vocalist Chelsea Tyler, guitarist Bryan Czap and bassist Craig Perkins continue on the trajectory set by 2017’s dark, atmospheric Hold Your Love. That album presented listeners with a dreamy landscape teeming with tension and longing, as well as level of beauty and depth that warranted well-deserved recognition and accolades.

DRMCTHR’s their new single “Burnin’ Up” still has its roots deeply embedded in the elements of their previous releases. However, the band has now fully embraced the pop-oriented facets of their music. In doing so, Tyler is granted even more freedom to explore her vocal range and Czap and Perkins’ guitar and bass chords rip with some solid grooves (I have not stop looping the solo after the first chorus). I am reluctant to say that this a “bold, new direction” for DRMCTHR, especially since everything feels as though it has been building to this moment. I, for one, am happy to see (and hear) them seize it and make it theirs.
